I was a computer operator for the University of London Computer Centre (ULCC), on Control Data, Amdahl and Cray mainframes between 1980 and1984. I then moved to the Network Support Group where I held various roles between 1984 and 2007 finishing as Core Architecture Team Manager and Deputy Head of the group. During this time, I was responsible for design, build and operation of wide area networks using X.25, IP and ATM technology.
Between 1999 and 2006, I was regularly secondnded to UKERNA for major projects including procurement of infrastructure and routers for SuperJANET4 and 5.I project managed the deployments of both networks.
I joined Janet through TUPE transfer in January 2007 and have since been responsible for teams managing RNO contracts, regional infrastructure procurement and latterly, the taking in house of regional network service delivery.
I became Deputy network operations director in 2016.
I am a member of the UCISA-NG committee.
