This document has been kindly provided by Martin Van Eker at the University of Bristol Medical School as part of the NHS-HE Connectivity Best Practice Working Group. When Martin presented on the Weston-Super-Mare NHS initiative with eduroam at the May 2014 NHS-HE Forum he said he would be willing to provide a document that can be shared with others and tweaked and changed by the user to best fit their local situation.

eduroam has often been extended in to the NHS to support students on clinical placement and clinicians with joint NHS and University roles in clinical research and/or education. I've spent a fair bit of time over the past month trying to improve the reliability of our RADIUS service for eduroam.  Previously it was entirely based on Microsoft NPS which has the tendency to silently discard authentication packets which it should really be rejecting. This creates a problem because if the authentication request originated from outside of your network (i.e.
