This is a web front-end to the Janet DNS Registry which allows registrars to register, modify and renew domain name registrations. In addition, organisations using DNSSEC can upload their DS keys. To use the system, authorised users must first request user accounts from Janet service desk.
The system is UK access management federation compliant. All ISPs and Janet customers, especially those having a large number of registrations, will benefit from using the self-service portal instead of relying on time consuming and inefficient e-mail based requests. E-mail is also an insecure medium and is vulnerable to being spoofed, which exposes the registry to potential abuse. Use of the portal reduces the risk of DNS hijack attack.
firThe portal works by generating system tickets after validating data entered by the user. These are passed to the automaton which updates DNS at scheduled interval during the day.
