In the last half of 2013, we undertook a community consultation to gather feedback on a draft AIM Strategy and Plan, outlining Jisc's high level objectives to continue the evolution of access and identity management for the UK education and research sectors and clearly stating targets of how the strategy will be met over the coming 2 years.
Originally published in January 2014, the Plan has been updated to show our progression against the published targets.
11th June 2012 saw the first meeting of what will hopefully become a regular event looking at identity, personal data and personal clouds (#idday). Organised by Tony Fish (@tonyfish) and facilitated by Kaliya Hamlin (@identitywoman) the unconference was like a smaller, London version of IIW http://www.internetidentityworkshop.com/.
Today was the final meeting of the first phase of the Jisc co-design Identity Management Taskforce. This activity is in the Jisc AIM Strategy and Plan (www.tinyurl.com/jiscaim) and has the objective of addressing "the social and political barriers to good identity management" - not technology. Discussing identity management without mentioning technologies is surprisingly tricky.
Last week Rhys and I were in Burlingame, near San Francisco, a town no longer just famous for having a Pez museum but now also known as the host of the first Internet2 Identity Week. Given the increasing interest in identity and access management, Internet 2 took the decision to strip all the AIM related content out of their Members Meeting and have a focussed Identity Week this Autumn.
Not the snappiest title, but the Inside Government Identity Assurance: enabling the secure delivery of online transactions and public services event I attended earlier this week was a really useful opportunity to find out what is happening in other parts of the public sector and also to be not surrounded by the usual IdM suspects.
The first Tuesday of each month can normally find a mixture of commercial, government and other public sector people with an interest in identity management attending Open Identity Exchange / Identity Assurance Programme (OIX/IDAP) meetings. Convened by the Cabinet Office the main focus is to provide an update on the IDAP Alpha projects, but yesterday's was also a joint meeting with EEMA (the European Association for e-identity and security) and had a focus on Mobile and Identity.
The third and final of the identity week meetings (Campus Architecture & Middleware Planning - CAMP) started with an amusing keynote from Patrick Perry, Vice Chancellor of Technology, Research and Information Systems California Community Colleges.
The Terena Network Conference #TNC14 was so interesting and busy that I didn't get time to drip feed the sessions as I advertised in my previous post, so instead, here is a selection of the AIM highlights. Most sessions were recorded so for more information you can view the archived streams at https://tnc2014.terena.org/web/media/archive/.
Yesterday I had an interesting afternoon at LSE for the September OIX meeting. This is the latest of a series of monthly meetings to get updates on the Government Digital Service (GDS) Identity Assurance Programme (IDAP) and other identity related projects from OIX members.
